BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Zoology, Government Degree College, Saluru, Parvathipuram Manyam dist, was established in the year 1998, as a result of sanction of Science sections having C. B. Z (Chemistry, Botany and Zoology and M. P. C (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) groups. It is affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. It was the first Government Degree College in the entire district of Vizianagaram, to start the science courses with M.P.C and C.B.Z combinations. Initially the department faced all the juvenile problems with regard to insufficient staff, accommodation, and laboratory equipment. But gradually, the position improved in all the important aspects of the Department.
The department started with sanctioning of Two Lecturer posts. Dr. S. Appala Naidu and Sri. G. Ram Prasad was appointed as Lecturers when the department was started.
The department has one well equipped laboratory. The Department carrying instruction in Telugu and Medium with Botany, Chemistry and Aquaculture combination.
Posts Sanctioned:
At the time of sanctioning of science section with the combination of Botany, Zoology and Chemistry two zoology posts were sanctioned. These two posts are being continued till now. Non – teaching posts were not sanctioned.
Staff members and their contribution to the department:
1. Dr. S. Appala Naidu:
He appointed as a Lecturer on Contract basis. He actively involved in the academic growth of the department. He conducted many field trips and study projects to the students. He was joined in the year 2000 and worked up to 2018 June.
2. Sri. G. Ram Prasad:
He worked as a contract lecturer for a short period and got selected as Junior Lecturer in Zoology through APPSC.
3. Sri. M. Lakshminarayana:
He worked as a contract lecturer for a short period and selected as Teacher in Tribal Welfare residential school.
4. Sri. K. Tirupathi Rao:
He worked as a contract lecturer for two years in this department. He selected as lecturer in Raja R. S. R. K. Ranga Rao Degree college, Bobbili.
5. Sri. P. Hariharachari:
He joined as a regular lecturer on Promotion with 25 years teaching experience as a junior lecturer and Teacher.
6. Sri. S. Srinivasa Rao:
He joined as a contract lecturer in this department during the year 2006 and he selected as junior lecturer in 2008 through APPSC.
7. Kum. K. Vani Bala:
She joined as a contract lecturer in this department in the year 2008, and she was transferred to Government Degree College, Rajam in the year 2015.
8. Dr. K. Jwalamukhi:
He was transferred from Government Degree College, G. L. Puram on 04.09.2015 and worked up to 30.09.2021. Then he transferred to Government Degree College, Cheepurupalli, VZM Dist.
9. Dr. G. VijayaDurga:
She appointed as a regular lecturer on 09.06.2018 and working till to date.
10. Kum. Ch. Sitaratnam:
She was appointed as an Absorbed Lecturer in this department in October 2021 from M. R. College, for Women. She has 26 years of service as a lecturer.
11. Dr. K. Vanibala: She is transferred from GDC Veeraghattam in the month of September 2023.

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY:
Areference section in the Department is maintained with 50 number of various books pertaining to the subject , which are available to each and every student. students are encouraged to utilize the departmental library which is very useful for their higher studies, Common entrance tests and other competitive exams. Department is also subscribing some journals and periodicals which are very useful for research purpose.
