BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Botany, Government Degree College, Saluru, Parvathipuram Manyam dist, was established in the year 1998, as a result of sanction of Science sections having C. B. Z (Chemistry, Botany and Zoology and M. P. C (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) groups. It is affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. It was the first Government Degree College in the entire district of Vizianagaram, to start the science courses with M.P.C and C.B.Z combinations. Initially the department faced all the juvenile problems with regard to insufficient staff, accommodation, and laboratory equipment. But gradually, the position improved in all the important aspects of the Department.
The department started with sanctioning of Two Lecturer posts. Sri.B.Bhadrayya and Sri. N.Umamaheshwara Rao was appointed as Lecturers when the department was started.
The department has one well equipped laboratory. The Department carrying instruction in Telugu and Medium with Zoology, Chemistry combination.
Posts Sanctioned:
At the time of sanctioning of science section with the combination of Botany, Zoology and Chemistry two Botany posts were sanctioned. These two posts are being continued till now. Non – teaching posts were not sanctioned.
Staff members and their contribution to the department:
1. Sri.B.Bhadrayya
He appointed as a Lecturer. He actively involved in the academic growth of the department. He conducted many field trips and study projects to the students. He was joined in the year 1998 and worked up to 2009 December.
2. Sri. N.Umamaheswara Rao
He worked as a contract lecturer. He was joined in the year 2000 and worked up to 2006 August.
3. Sri. B.Suribabu
He worked as a contract lecturer.He was joined in the year 2010 and worked up to 2012.
4. Sri. V.Janarthana Rao
He worked as a contract lecturer.He was joined in the year 2013 and worked in short period .
5. Sri. S.Srinu
He worked as a contract lecturer. He was joined in the year 2013 and worked up to 2016 August.
6. Sri. G.Yeruku Naidu
He joined as a lecturer in this department during the year 2006 and he was retired in 2019
7. Smt.Dr.Y.Vijaya Bharathi
She joined as a lecturer in this department in the year 2015, and she was transferred to Government Degree College, cheepurupalli in the year 2021.
8. M.Yasodha
She joined as guest faculty on 19.07.2019 and working till to date
9. N.Umamaheswara Rao
He appointed as a contract lecturer again in this college. In the year of 2021 and working till to end.

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY:
A reference section in the Department is maintained with 50 number of various books pertaining to the subject , which are available to each and every student. students are encouraged to utilize the departmental library which is very useful for their AUCET and other competitive exams.
The Department is also subscribing some journals and periodicals which have basic scientific research botanical concepts.
