BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Physics, Government Degree College, Salur, Parvathipuram Manyam dist, was established in the year 1998, as a result of sanction of Science sections having M. P. C (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) group. It is affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. It was the first Government Degree College in the entire district of Vizianagaram. Initially the department faced all the juvenile problems with regard to insufficient staff, accommodation, and laboratory equipment. But gradually, the position improved in all the important aspects of the Department.
The department started with sanctioning of Two Lecturer posts. Sri A Adi Narayana appointed as lecturer in physics on regular basin on 03/12/1999 and Sri P. Appa Rao appointed as a lecturer in physics on contract basis on 20/11/2000.
The department has one well equipped laboratory. The Department carrying instruction in Telugu and Medium with Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science.
Posts Sanctioned:02
At the time of sanctioning of science section with the combination of Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science two Physics posts were sanctioned. These two posts are being continued till now. Non – teaching posts were not sanctioned. From the Academic year 2023-24, as per New Education Policy 2020, Physics is the minor subject for Chemistry programme.

1. Sri. A Adi Narayana (transferred)
He appointed as a Lecturer on Regular basis. He actively involved in the academic growth of the department. He was joined in the year 1999 and worked up to 2006 April.
2. Sri. P. Appa Rao (got GROUP-IV post)
He worked as a contract lecturer for a short period and got selected as GROUP_IV through APPSC, Left from college 05/11/2000
3. Sri. G Shankar Narayana Rao (transferred)
He worked as a Regular lecturer for a period 3 years, and transfered on 04/09/2004.
4. Sri. D. Ganesh Reddy
He worked as a contract lecturer for nine years in this department. He left from college 10/04/2013.
5. Sri. P. Chanti Babu (transferred)
He joined as a Contract lecturer on 21/08/2006 and transfered 04/11/2010 and again joined as lecturer in physics at this 02/07/2017 and worked for a period of 4 years and transfered on 09/10/2021
6. Sri. M. Ramesh Kumar (transferred)
He joined as a Regular lecturer in this department during the year 2010 and transfered on 02/06/2017
7. Sri. J Chandra Sekhar Rao (transferred)
He joined as lecturer in physics on regular basis in this department in the year 2013, and he was transferred to Government Degree College, Rajam in the year 2021.

9. Sri. Tholla Rama Sunkanna (transferred)
He appointed as lecturer in physics on regular basis on 29/09/2022 and transferred to S.V.A Government Degree College (M), Srikalahasti, Thirupathi District Zone-IV on Mutual Basis with Dr G Srinu, L/Physics at S.V.A Government Degree College(M), Srikalahsti, on 31.07.2023.
